UK premiere for Yamato Scale's Dataweigh Omega at the PPMA 2011 in Birmingham

PPMA 2011
27-29th September, Birmingham NEC, UK

Yamato Scale Dataweigh (stand B21) will be showcasing its new innovative multihead weigher, Dataweigh Omega, at this year's show. Aimed predominantly at the food, confectionery, snack, powder and detergent sectors, Dataweigh Omega offers improved productivity by operating with greater speed and precision.

The system benefits from new high frequency technology which minimises load cell vibrations as well as a new digital filter for maximum speed. In addition, dual load cells eliminate low-frequency vibrations whilst a toggle-less gating mechanism reduces the mechanical impact on the load cell and suppresses the bucket gating noise.

Individually adjustable collating chutes also facilitate high-speed discharge, ensuring flexibility and enhanced product diversity whilst the accuracy of the system means there is little product waste.

Yamato Scale's successful participation at the Interpack 2011

Yamato Scale successfully takes the Interpack 2011 as an opportunity to remain one step ahead. Presenting a completely new stand design, the European headquarters of the world’s leading manufacturer of multihead weighing technology confirms record attendance at one of the most successful Interpack shows in its 25-year history.

The highlight of this year’s Interpack was the new Dataweigh Omega Series presented by the multihead weighing specialist from Willich, Germany. The multihead weighers of this Premium Series feature a significant improvement in productivity, simplicity of operation, easier maintenance, excellent hygienic features as well as further optimized characteristics to enhance the machines’ environmental responsibility. The tours of the stand and the live demonstrations which took place all throughout the day allowed visitors of the food and non-food industries to see the many benefits of this new series for themselves.

In addition to the 11 new Dataweigh Omega models, the stand featured models from Yamato’s Value Line, three successful models of checkweighers and world premieres in the domain of high volume dosage and manual weighing.

In order to clearly demonstrate the new functions as they apply in real-world settings, the stands of 13 of Yamato’s partners additionally showed the interaction between Yamato’s multihead weighers and various packaging machines.

The generous spatial concept and the live practical demonstrations of the applications paid off, for the visitors enjoyed long, informative stays on the spacious stand.

Yamato Scales's Marketing Manager, Michael Henrich, is very positive in his appraisal of the Interpack 2011: “The number of high-quality contacts greatly exceeded our expectations. We are therefore very satisfied with Yamato's performance at the show.”

Yamato Scale’s positive performance reflects the overall success of this year’s Interpack. Despite a slight drop in the number of visitors - from 179,000 in 2008 to 166,000 in 2011 - a significant increase in the quality of the contacts made was observed throughout the Interpack. Yamato Scale was able to confirm this trend at its booth, where numerous possibilities arose to discuss concrete projects directly with the relevant decision makers. The fact that nearly 75% of all visitors belonged to the management level, including many international decision makers, confirms the Interpack’s status as the world’s most important trade show for the packaging industry.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Yamato Scale will continue in its tradition to invite existing and new customers to the Interpack to discover the latest developments in the world of weighing technology
at the Yamato stand. We are already looking forward to seeing you at the Interpack 2014. Don’t forget to save the date: we will meet again in Düsseldorf from May 8th - May 14th, 2014!

It's time for a new generation of multihead weighers

Yamato Scale's new Omega Series is a benchmark for the future of multihead weighing technology. The new machines are easier to operate, have a high quality finishing, and are highly efficient and ecological. Yamato used the opportunity of this year's Interpack to present further models of the world's most innovative multihead weigher, thereby rounding off its product range.

Pressure to increase production output and pressure from rising costs as well as higher demands on hygiene, user-friendliness and environmental responsibility present a challenge to today's multihead weighing technology. Yamato Scale has decided to live up to the challenge by developing the new Dataweigh Omega Series. Increased productivity, greater ease of operation, enhanced ease of maintenance, excellent hygienic characteristics and improved environmental responsibility are among the main features of this Premium Serie's multihead weighers.

The entire model range was now presented at the Interpack. The new series offers a solution for nearly every possible application: with the ultracompact multihead weigher O-0114S for confectionery, the O-1214S for IQF and fresh produce in bulk volume, and the O-0132F for smaller target weights for high speed applications, virtually every product can be processed.

Omega: faster than all the rest!*

With the novel high frequency technology, the load cell vibrations can be reduced to a minimum. The new 2-way load cell furthermore eliminates low frequency vibrations. The buckets feature a new toggle-less gating mechanism, thereby reducing the mechanical impact on and thus the wear of the load cell while at the same time suppressing the bucket gating noises. This provides for safe, error-free and gentle weighing. Impressive weighing speeds can be attained with a digital filter and adjustable collating chutes without compromising the accuracy of the weighments. On the contrary, the product give-away can even be drastically reduced.

For the first time, Yamato presents the fastest multihead weigher in the world to the public.

*With 600 weighments per minute, the ADW-O-0132F is the fastest multihead weigher in the world.

Hygiene and the environment as added value

Although the Omega Series leads to an increase in productivity, it saves energy nonetheless. Compared to previous models, the new machines are up to 60% more efficient in terms of energy. The Omega weighers' Eco+ System plays an important role in saving energy and in improving the environmental qualities of the production processes.

A second major feature of the new weigher series is the emphasis on improved hygienic factors. To facilitate cleaning, Yamato Scale developed a polygon bucket shape, allowing the stainless steel design to meet the highest hygienic standards.

Impressive Service

An intelligent maintenance program reduces downtimes. With the simple removal of components, extensive alarm functions and an early indication of the wear of specific parts, time-consuming maintenance works are now a thing of the past. The new 12.1 inch color touch screen and the unique Auto-Tuning function enable an easy and effortless set up of the weigher.

Just half a second - that's all it takes for a fresh solution

Yamato defies the laws of gravity and helps Ardo attain new records in its production

The history of Ardo nv is an impressive success story in and of itself. Ardo, a family owned company, began its activities in the 1950's, growing and trading vegetables at the family farm near the village of Ardooie in Belgium. The village gave the company its name, and the farm provided the site for Ardo's first vegetable freezing factory, built in 1977. True to its own standards to cultivate locally and to always offer fresh vegetables, the family owned company proceeded to freezing a part of its crop in order to preserve the products' freshness and to create sufficient stock.

Founder Edward Haspeslagh caught the sign of the times with these new frozen products and was able to continuously develop his young company with a clear vision for the future and a never-failing instinct for future trends. In record time the original farm store quickly became not only Belgium's largest manufacturer of frozen produce but also one of the largest in Europe. To this day the success story continues.

The plants of the Ardo Group are meanwhile located all across Europe. The products are either distributed with the own brand name Ardo or as private labels for retail and industrial consumers. In both cases, the secret to Ardo's success lies in the regional focus while concentrating on the goal of processing, packaging and distributing first-class quality while it is still fresh. The Ardo products are all processed locally in the regions specializing in vegetable cultivation.
.

Strong partners to support the expansion

This business strategy has allowed Ardo to increase its turnover to 600 million Euros in 2010 in the last five years and to increase the volume of sold frozen produce to about 600 tons per year.

A success of this dimension calls for a strong supporting infrastructure. Very early on in its expansion, Ardo contacted Yamato Scale, the Japanese specialist of efficient weighing technology with subsidiaries in Germany, France, Russia and the Benelux. With Yamato Scale, Ardo has found the ideal partner, as Yamato's multihead weighers reliably provide both the speed and the precision essential to packaging fresh products immediately following their harvest.

“Yamato Scale's multihead weighers enable us to always weigh our frozen products with extreme precision and speed”, confirms Frank Sioen, the head of Ardo's plant in Violaines in the north of France. “Furthermore, Yamato Scale is a partner for whom customer service is every bit as important as the product itself.”

It therefore came as no surprise that Ardo once again relied upon Yamato Scale for the modernization of the plant in Violaines. In addition to the modernization of the entire packaging section of the plant, the Belgian company also constructed new production and packaging halls which feature state-of-the-art technical equipment and logistics. The contribution of Yamato Scale's multihead weighers is crucial to this modernized approach.

A personalized solution increases the productivity

According to Julien Dubois, head of Development at Ardo, Ardo “had very specific requirements to which Yamato Scale responded with tailorized suggestions. We therefore acquired a solution – not just a product. We consider the entire developmental process as well as the customer support before and after the purchase to be a part of the solution alongside the weigher itself.“

Patrick Coursier, head of the Technical Competence Center at Yamato Scale, developed this solution according to the customer’s specific demands. A joint intense brainstorming session with Ardo made it clear that the speed at which the frozen food specialist’s current production lines were performing was not sufficient. Ardo thus clearly defined the challenge: two bags were to be packaged per second.

“The only obstacle in the way was gravity. We were not able to technically speed up the time it takes for the product to fall when discharged. We are still not able to do that,” Patrick Coursier explains with a laugh, “however, we were able to circumvent gravity.”

By installing two sets of chutes, one to the front and one to the back, falling products can no longer get in each other’s way. The time it takes for the products to fall is not reduced, but now one no longer has to wait for the first batch to be bagged before the second batch can be sent on its way.

Double the speed with Yamato Scale

Julien Dubois is very satisfied: “We are very pleased with the solution which even exceeded our demands and expectations. Following thorough comparisons of what is available on the market and after extensive testing of the weighers we can positively say that this is simply the best.”

Ardo’s requirements specifications called for multihead weighers which could attain high target weights and high speeds with minimal deviation from the target weights. The 18-head multihead weigher ADW F618SV from Yamato’s High Tech Frontier Series now easily meets these demands.

Patrick Coursier is also satisfied with the result: “We are quite proud to have been able to offer our customer a solution which even exceeded the targeted performance while remaining well within the budget.”

Weighing at higher speeds and with greater precision translates directly into daily savings during the day to day operations.
